Exciting Updates from YNPN Birmingham Board President

Hey there YNPN Birmingham!

What a busy and exciting summer it’s been in the Magic City! Especially for all of us here at YNPN. We were happy to see so many of you at our recent social at Paramount and our first Coffee and Conversation event. We’re looking forward to our next Coffee & Conversation about food insecurity on August 13th. As always, check Facebook for information about this or any upcoming events, and please remember to invite your friends!

Your YNPN Bham Board has been busy this summer working on some exciting changes.  YNPN national selected us as one of only seven chapters to participate in a pilot program to launch a chapter operating system. As part of the process, we designed a membership database and website, which are going live soon! Two board members and I are headed to Little Rock this week to kick off the operating system at YNPN’s national conference. We’ll have more details when we return!

Most exciting: We are getting ready to file as a 501(c)(3)! We have already incorporated at the state level, opened a bank account, and approved our bylaws. Our all-volunteer board has invested a lot of time and money because we believe in YNPN, but any nonprofit faces significant startup costs from application fees to Quickbooks to D&O insurance, to name a few. We feel the logical next step is a crowdfunding campaign.  We want to raise $2,015 in 15 days for our 2015 startup!!!

Beyond the cost of getting on our feet, we also want to ensure our sustainability and lasting high-quality programming. We’re committed to building an organization that will be here, connecting and cultivating emerging leaders, long after we’re all retired. This is why the Board has decided our best bet moving forward is to institute an affordable membership fee structure in 2016. We will kick off the startup campaign in mid-August with a founding member option of only $35 – that is for this year and all of 2016! More details to come, and as a valued member of our network, we welcome your ideas and feedback. We hope you will invest in YNPN and invest in yourself.

We are excited about the growth of YNPN Birmingham, and what it means for our great city. We believe in all the work you do every day for our community, and believe in your growing leadership. We hope you are as excited as we are, and if you want to learn more about chapter leadership opportunities, contact us at [email protected].
